Homeopathy vs. Allopathy: Take Your Time
Because a fundamental law of homeopathy is to treat the whole person, the principal tool of discovery is the intake or consultation. The purpose of the homeopathic intake is to provide a clear picture of the totality of symptoms through visual means and a battery of questions regarding mental/emotional, physical generals, physical specifics, and a timeline.1 Discerning questions—some may seem irrelevant—bring each patient's symptoms and history into the clear light of discovery.
Because allopathic treatment is focused primarily on the symptoms of disease, the intake focuses on the presenting complaint—the type of skin rash, for example—instead of the individualized symptoms of a patient. Allopathic medicines/treatments are based on averages, and the medications address the largest group of patients suffering from a particular disease.2 The foundation is predictive, and individualization is unnecessary using this type of treatment.
